National Italy Rental Terms for travel between 01-May-2013 and 31-Dec-2019Payment
An initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard (transaction fee of 1.95% applies).
The balance is payable directly to the supplier on arrival (along with any applicable vehicle security bond).
In the event of cancellation the initial deposit paid remains non-refundable.
Additional Driver Policy
Additional driver charge is: Euro 5.64 per day, plus tax, with a maximum charge of EUR 113.00 + tax (20 days).
Any young additional drivers from 19 to 24 years, will be charged the young driver fee as well as the additional driver fee.
All additional driver's must be communicated to the car hiring location at the start of the rental, otherwise the main driver will be held responsible in any case.
Any additional driver must be present at time of check out and they must have the same requirements as the lead driver.
Minimum rental age is:
19 years for car group ECMR.
21 years for car groups: EDMR, CCMR, CWMR, ICMR, IWMR, IXMR, DBMR and IMMR.
25 years for all other car groups.
There is no maximum age limit.
A Young Drivers Surcharge of EUR 15.40 per day + tax, with a maximum charge of EUR 231.00 + tax (15 days) applies to all renters aged between 19 - 24 years.
Cross Border Policy
Vehicles are allowed to cross the borders of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia and Switzerland. If the client drives the rented car into any non-authorized countries, any insurance coverage will no longer be valid and he/she will be responsible for any expenses that may occur. The customer is responsible for the correct usage, and for any ordinary maintenance of the vehicle. Any maintenance intervention on the vehicle must be previously authorized by a Maggiore representative and the expenses receipt has to be sent to Maggiore Rent Spa, via di Tor Cervara 225 – 00155 ROMA P.I. 06771581003, otherwise no refund will be given.
Please be advised that the following areas in Germany: Berlin, Cologne and Hannover will require an 'Emissions Sticker' stating the emission of the vehicle intended to enter these areas. Without this sticker, the driver of the vehicle will be fined up to EUR 40.00 even if the car is registered abroad. Should the car not have the 'Emissions Sticker', then this can be purchased at most garages.
Cars are allowed to be taken to Elba Island all Italian islands by a Ferry (subject to Ferry Company's regulations).
Please be advised that due to a change in law in Germany, it is mandatory for all vehicles crossing the border into Germany to have winter tyres fitted during the Snow & Icy conditions. Customers will be fined on the spot if they are stopped by police and found to not have the appropriate winter tyres.
Delivery and Collection
Delivery/Collection service is on request and local conditions apply. Delivery/Collection charges will be advised at time of check out.
An original and valid driving licence must be presented at the start of the rental. Driving licences must always be accompanied by an identity card for EU citizens or a passport for non-EU citizens. Non-Roman script licences must have an international licence & their licence from country of domicile. The licence must have been held for at least one year. Military driving licences are not allowed. International driving licenses are required for renters who present a non - EU driving licence. International Driving licenses are only valid outside the country of origin and when presented along with the original driving licence. Customer's who have citizenship in Eastern Europe (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia) will be required to provide the following documents: 1) A second document in addition to the valid driving license showing photo and address issued by a public organization, 2) A return airline or rail ticket, 3) A hotel reservation or an address in Italy.
One Way Rentals
Maggiore may at its own discretion refuse a one–way rental to / from certain areas for particular car groups.
Vehicles can be dropped off only in the authorized location at booking time. In case the vehicle will be dropped off in a location different from the pick up one without informing Maggiore at booking time, or at time of pick-up for walk-in rentals (non-estimated one ways) an extra fee equal to EUR 12.50 + tax will be applied in addition to the one-way fee.
Domestic One -way rentals are permitted within Italy, without any minimum length of rental and cost as follows:-
Within Italian Mainland to Mainland / Sicily to Sicily / Sardinia to Sardinia : Euro 47.00 per rental - plus VAT
Drop off from Mainland or Sicily to Sardinia and vice versa is not allowed.
From Italian Mainland to Sicily & vice versa: Euro 73.00 per rental - plus VAT
Intra-city one ways are free of charge.
Domestic One Ways From Italian Mainland or Sicily to Sardinia & vice versa is no longer allowed for all car groups. It is allowed just within Sardinia and the cost remains the same, Euro 47.00 per rental - plus vat. If the vehicle is taken to Sardinia from the mainland or Sicily (or vice versa), there will be a penalty charge of EUR 427.00 + tax (minimum) charged to the customer (penalty charges are paid locally).
Groups PCAR, FVMR/MVMR, PVMR & FWAR may only be used for Domestic one ways between locations from which they are available and these groups cannot be used for International one-ways.
Groups PVMR and FVMR/MVMR can only be used for rentals between Mainland to Mainland, Sicily to Sicily and Sardinia to Sardinia.
Group FWAR is available for both pick-up and drop-off only in: Milan Linate Apt, Milan Malpensa Apt, Venice Apt, Florence Finiguerra, Florence Apt, Rome Ciampino Apt, Rome Fiumicino Apt, Rome Stazione Termini, Rome Via Po, Naples Apt, Catania Apt (Sicily) and Palermo Apt (Sicily) locations.

For Sardinia, groups PCAR, FVMR/MVMR and PVMR are available for both pick-up and drop-off only in: Alghero Apt, Cagliari Apt & Olbia Apt. No drop off to Mainland or Sicily is allowed.
If FVMR/MVMR and PVMR are returned to a non-authorized location (as detailed above) then a penalty charge of EUR 293.33 + tax will be charged to the customer in addition to the one way fee (penalty charges are paid locally).
International One Ways - please consult the International One Way Policy (IOWP). There is a 3 day minimum length of rental required for all international one ways. The following groups are not allowed for International One Way rentals PCAR, FVMR/MVMR, PVMR, FWAR and FCAR.
Out of Hours Policy
Out of hours pick up and drop off: If an employee is needed, the charge will be Euro 22.00 + tax per rental - this service is on request only. If pick up will be at an airport agency, flight details must be supplied and an employee will wait for the customer up to one hour from the landing time, but not beyond 02:00 the following morning.
No Cash payments allowed. All major Credit Cards accepted (Visa, Diners, MasterCard, Amex), except Electron and pre-paid credit cards. National Vouchers are also accepted.
For car groups: ECMR, EDMR, CCMR, DBMR, CWMR and ICMR one Credit Card is required. For car groups: IMMR, IXMR, IWMR, FCAR and FWAR two different Credit Cards are required to guarantee the rental. A single Credit card is accepted only if it is one of the following: American Express Gold or Platinum or Centurion; Visa Gold or Platinum; MasterCard Gold. For car groups: PCAR, FVMR and PVMR two Credit Cards are required to guarantee the rental but at least one of them must be: American Express Gold, Platinum, Centurion; Visa Gold, Platinum; MasterCard Gold.
The deposit held on the customers credit card amounts to the estimated total rental charge (including additional services, refueling, equipment etc) plus approx EUR 400. A credit card is always required for deposits, which is held on the credit card until the car is returned. Customers will be charged EUR 208.33 + tax for loss of vehicle keys plus the local daily rate for the whole rental period until the key is returned or key loss/theft report is provided to Maggiore.
Car is supplied with a full tank. Return full or a refuelling charge of Euro 15.00 + VAT will apply + cost of missing petrol, which is 30% more expensive due to variable supply costs. The customer is required to fill the tank with correct type of fuel for the car. In case of misuse or filling the tank with the wrong type of fuel, the client will be charged for the damages caused.

. In case of an accident, the driver has to complete the CAI form, present in the vehicle, completing every section. In case of an accident with another road user/vehicle, it has to be completed and signed by both parties and any testimonies should be obtained. The original copy of the CAI and possibly other documentation must be received within 24 hours after the event, at any Maggiore agencies.
In case Roadside Assistance is required and in order to receive help and/or refunds customer has to respect the following 4 steps:

---> TRUCK ARRIVAL & ACCIDENT REPORT (wait for the Truck and in case of an accident fill the CAI form)
---> AUTHORIZATION FOR AN ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION TO THE NEAREST MAGGIORE LOCATION (After the tow truck arrival if the customer needs to continue their journey they must take authorization directly from the Maggiore Roadside Assistance Service that will provide them an authorization number, which is also required for expenses refund and is extremely important to keep it together with all the other documentation.)

Child/Infant seat CSI = Euro 38.00 + tax per rental. Replacement amount is EUR 75.00 + tax.
Child/Toddler seat CST= Euro 38.00 + tax per rental. Replacement amount is EUR 75.00 + tax.
Booster Cushion BST = Euro 38.00 + tax per rental. Replacement amount is EUR 75.00 + tax.
Snow chains SNO = Euro 6.61 + tax per day with a maximum of Euro 33.06 + tax per rental (available for all car groups). Replacement amount is EUR 66.67 + tax.
Ski rack SKV= Euro 31.60 + tax per rental (available for all car groups except FVMR/MVMR & PVMR). Replacement amount is EUR 125.00 + tax.
GPS Navigation Device - there are three types of GPS available in Italy, (technical details and prices are available at the rental desk):
1) NAVIGATION MIO MOOV SPIRIT 200/300.
2) NAVIGATION MY SPIRIT 480.
3) NAVIGATION SATELLITE TV WITH MY V575.
None of the Navigation Systems can be confirmed at the time of the reservation but it can be requested at pick-up time. In case of damage/loss or theft a replacement fee will be charged.
All Special Equipment is on freesale (except GPS).
All cars will be equipped with a reflective jacket which must be worn in an emergency else a fine will be levied. There is no extra charge for the use of this but if not returned then 15.00 Euros will be charged.
Steering locks are provided free of charge in a limited number of locations and for all car groups (they cannot be confirmed at time of reservation or requested at time of car pick-up). If the steering wheel lock is not returned or damaged, then the customer will be charged EUR 41.67 + tax.
Premium Location charge is 16% + tax for all airport locations and 12% + tax for all Railway locations. For exclusive pre-pay Tour Products, the Premium Location Fee at Airports is a fixed fee of EUR 5.16 + tax per day.
The Premium Location Charge applies on all charges, excluding fuel.
Vehicle licence fee / Road fund tax is Euro 1.97 per day + tax, with a maximum charge 18 days = EUR 35.46 + tax.
Contract Mandated Charge: A handling fee of EUR 1.64 + tax per rental is applicable to cover administrative & postage expenses, which applies to all rentals.
Administration Fee (GMU): is EUR 30.75 + tax. This is an administration fee that applies incase of an accident when the vehicle is returned damaged, even if optional coverage SuperKasko (SKO) has been purchased or included in the rate. This charge is not loaded in the system and is payable locally if applicable.
Administration Fee (GRV): is EUR 30.75 + tax. This is an administration fee to manage a dossier in case of an accident, fines notification, tolls payment and/or fees/charges of any kind due to vehicle parking during the rental period. This charge is not loaded in the system and is payable locally if applicable.
Missing Accident Report Delivery (PMR): This is a penalty charge of EUR 416.67 + tax applicable if the customer who has an accident, forgets to inform Maggiore about it, and in case of negligence to deliver a copy of the accident report whilst returning the car or in case he/she doesn't provide (even after the closure of the rental), all the necessary information regarding the accident.
If extra specialist cleaning is required to the returned vehicle, then an additional charge of EUR 125.00 + tax will be charged to the customer.

Insurances & Waivers:
CDW – Collision Damage Waiver
Collision Damage waiver is mandatory and may not be substituted by credit card coverage. CDW reduces the renters financial liability in the event of damage to all or part of the vehicle to the deductible amount
The deductible on CDW is exempt from VAT.

PTI1– Personal Travel Insurance
PTI - Personal Travel Insurance: Luggage stolen or damaged in a collision is covered up to the sum of Euro 1,032.91 and up to the sum of Euro 258.23 in the case of theft or bag-snatching. Also, covered up to sum of Euro 516.46, are items of sports equipment (bicycles, surf boards, etc.) which are secured to the outside of the vehicle. Luggage and personal effects are not covered if they are stolen from an unlocked vehicle or if stolen between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00 when the vehicle is unguarded.
PTI also covers Personal Civil Liability. If, during the rental period the hirer or additional driver(s) and relatives traveling with them, accidentally cause damage to a third party, they are insured up to a maximum sum of Euro 51,645.69. PTI is subject to 21% tax. For an extra day PTI - 4.77

Third Party Liability

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due.
